Nigerian-born British professional boxer Anthony Oluwafemi Joshua, widely known as Anthony Joshua, has recently shared his thoughts on his son’s future career aspirations.
In a candid interview with BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, Joshua revealed that he would rather see his 8-year-old son, Joseph Joshua, known affectionately as JJ, pursue a career in accountancy rather than follow in his footsteps as a boxer.

Joshua noted the importance of understanding numbers and the stability that a career in accountancy can provide.
He stated, “If I were to look for a career for him, I would ask him to look at accountancy because it’s good to understand numbers. I would rather keep boxing out of my family.”
The British heavyweight champion pointed out that, although he prefers JJ to become an accountant, he ultimately wants his son to carve out his future and make his own decisions regarding his career path.
This sentiment shows Joshua’s desire to support his son’s interests and strengths, even if they diverge from his career in professional boxing.
This revelation provides a glimpse into Joshua’s values and priorities as a parent, focusing attention on his concern for his son’s well-being and future stability.
It also sheds light on the often-unseen pressures and challenges associated with the world of professional sports, which Joshua seems keen to shield his son from.
