ANSFA To Honor Late Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah With Black Armbands And Tribute During All Stars Tournament

Following the death of Senator (Dr) Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah in London at the age of 52, the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) has decided to honor his memory during the ongoing Babatem/Anambra FA All Stars Football Competition. In a bid to commemorate his substantial contributions to the sport, ANSFA has mandated that all players wear black armbands for the remaining matches of the tournament, which is currently in its group stage. The FA’s Board Member and Head of the Media Committee, Mr. Ralph Chidozie George, emphasized, “We will continue to mourn our late former Chairman, Senator Ubah. Players will wear black armbands during the remaining games of the Babatem All Stars Tournament.”

Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi, the Chairman of ANSFA, affectionately known as ‘General,’ expressed deep sympathy for Ubah’s family. “Our thoughts are with his family. I have spoken to his wife and many stakeholders, and everyone is in deep mourning. We will do everything to honor him,” he said. He further revealed that Ubah’s family would keep the association informed about the funeral arrangements, and ANSFA is committed to participating in honoring him.

In addition to the black armbands, a minute of silence will be observed during matches scheduled for the weekend. Chief Victor Aniekwena, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Vice Chairman of ANSFA, affirmed, “We can never honor him enough for what he did for the game in our state.”

He also called on national football organizations, including the NLO, NPFL, and NFF, to follow ANSFA’s lead in recognizing Ubah’s impact. “He touched all with his sponsorships, and we must continue to honor his legacy in every possible way,” Aniekwena added.
