The much awaited Anioma Cup Finals between Ihuyase FC of Agbor and Visionaries FC Ogwashi Uku has been called off indefinitely. The Finals which was initially Scheduled for Sunday 18th December was postponed indefinitely on the eve of the match in a communique sent by the Chairman of the Delta North Football Coaches Council. In the statement posted on the Group’s WhatsApp chat, Coach Emeka Okwutu stated that “I regret to announce to the house that the ANIOMA NATIONS CUP finals slated for Sunday has been prospone indefinitely” he posted
“By this a date for an extra ordinary Congress will be communicated to the house in due time, I regret to announce this and very sorry for the inconveniences it might have caused clubs in execution of their matches” the chairman further added
The decision of the Chairman to call off the finals didn’t go down well with most members of the coaching association as many wanted then finals to be done with., however a few others were in support of the Decision calling for the Congress to resolve pending issues within the Coaching Council before the finals.
“I have spent over #120,000 for this tournament, and is been handled this way,, after Sunday it will no longer work, which means it’s been a total waste of time and resources” Lamentrd Head Coach of Visionaries FC Coach Victor.
It will be recallled that the Tournament ran into a stalemate during the group stage which led to about 2 weeks suspension when the Chairman of the LOC, Coach Patrick Okeleke resigned midway into the tournament before a peace meeting was held to reconcile the warring parties.
Big Daddy FC of Agbor are the defending champions after winning the tournament in 2021 defeating Osevan FC of Kwale but withdrew after the first round haven qualified from the Agbor Center as runners up.
