One of the reigning amateur boxers in Mushin, Raheem Animashaun is popularly known as Badoo did not disappoint his teeming fans who came to watch him at the recently just concluded Badoo & Maddo Mushin Boxing Fiesta.
Before he came to the ring, there was apprehension among his fans whether he would win the bout or not but fortunately he defeated Oni Babatunde from Kola Boxing Club to emerge as the winner. The bout was tough for Animashaun who was at his best to defeat his opponent.
Animashaun who started his boxing career at the age of four had more punches than his opponent during the bout. The 13 years old amateur boxer who was supported by his teeming fans used his experience to win his opponent in the best of three.
Speaking after his bout, Anumashaun’s Badoo said his victory was well deserved and thanked his fans who came from far and near to cheer him to victory. He admitted that the bout was tough for him but thanked goodness that he did not disappoint his fans.
“I am happy that I won the bout after round three. It was a tough bout and I commend my opponent for his good performance. I want to use this medium to thank my parents who are always behind my boxing career. The victory I achieved against my opponent was a result of their support and my fans who always pray for me,” he said.
Animashaun said his ambition is to take his boxing career to the next level and prayed that someday he would represent this country in both continental and intercontinental boxing competitions.
“I have represented Team Lagos in the 2018 National Youths Games which I won the gold medal. I am still optimistic that I would use my boxing to bring laurel back to the country. I know what it takes to be a champion and it is left for those who are in charge of our boxing both state and national to give me a chance to showcase my God-given talents,” he said.
Many amateur boxers from different ages took part in the boxing fiesta which comes once a year at Mushin.
Some of the invited guests who spoke to our correspondent expressed satisfaction with the development of boxing in Mushin. While some of them promised to give the boxing fiesta all the support in the next edition, some of them donated cash gifts as part of their support for the development of boxing in Mushin.
Boxing coordinator, Jamiu Animashaun expressed gratitude to God for the success of the Boxing fiesta and thanked those who have contributed immensely to make the fiesta a memorable one.
