Manchester United’s in-form striking trio has given Andy Cole reason to set his hopes high ahead of the 2020/21 campaign ignoring ex Nigeria International, Odion Ighalo who is on loan from Chinese side, Shanghai Shenhua.
Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood contributed 62 goals in all competitions between them last term to cement a place as one of Europe’s most prolific front-threes with Ighalo coming on as a cameo substitute in the latter stages of their EPL top 4 battle and was overlooked in the semifinal loss to eventual winners, Sevilla.
And, with Martial the oldest of the three at 24, the Treble-winning former no.9 sees no reason why they can’t improve further and fire the Reds to glory this season – and in future years.
“They’re all young and energetic and have got good pace and can score goals,” Cole stated prior to Soccer Aid for Unicef on Sunday.
“I can see them being at Manchester United for many years and hopefully with those guys contributing more goals, and from wide areas, then hopefully, this season, we’ll be up there trying to win some silverware.”
The Nigerian striker’s stay was initially due to end on 31 May but he extended his stay to remain with the Reds until 30 January 2021, enabling him to build on an impressive start to life with the club he supported as a boy.
Ighalo’s tally of four goals in eight appearances so far includes at least one strike in each of his three starts – against Club Brugge, Derby County (2) and LASK.
Ighalo won United’s Goal of the Month award for March with a stunning strike, the impressive 5-0 victory over Austrian club LASK in the Europa League.
