Anayo Iwuala Explains Kuwait Move: ‘It Wasn’t My Intention, But I Had No Choice’

Super Eagles winger Anayo Iwuala has revealed the circumstances behind his move to Kuwaiti side Al Arabi SC following brief stints in Tunisia and Algeria. Speaking to EaglesTracker, the former NPFL standout admitted that the decision to play in Kuwait was influenced by his parent club, Esperance de Tunis, rather than his personal preference.

“They told me it’s either I stay back and sit on the bench—or I go where they want me to,” Iwuala disclosed.

Despite being critical of the football quality in Kuwait compared to Nigeria’s Professional Football League (NPFL), Iwuala opted to stay at Al Arabi for practical reasons.

“The quality of the NPFL is better than here. But at least here I get what I want. Football is two ways—you can’t lose on both sides,” he explained, referencing the financial stability and playing opportunities the move provided.

Iwuala’s remarks shed light on the challenges African players face when negotiating career moves, balancing their ambitions with the realities of contractual obligations and personal stability.
