Anambra State Director of Sports, Faith Okwonna says her athletes are ready to represent the state well at the 7th National Youth Games in Delta state.
Okwonna stated this during the opening ceremony of the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta state on Saturday.
Okwonna said Anambra state athletes were physically and mentally ready for the competition.
She revealed that they are set to win more medals in the athletics and combat sports events.
She said, “The National Youth Games is for U15 athletes and we came with 18 sports; Anambra is prepared to get medals in all the sports. Our strong areas are; athletics, chess, combat sports, and volleyball (male and female). Volleyball qualified from the South East elimination and I am expecting medals in both categories.
Coordinator of the Association of Nigerian Women in Sports (NAWIS), Anambra State Chapter said Governor Charles Soludo has motivated the team with adequate resources.
She urged the athletes to give their best during the games.
She said, “Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo gave the team maximum support and sent the chief of staff to bid us farewell. He has promised to reward the athletes who win medals and I am sure the statement has motivated them to bring honour to the state.
“My charge to the athletes is to be focused, determined, and give their best during the games. Anambra has been doing well in the Games but I have told them to put in more effort”.
