Chikelue Iloenyosi, Anambra Football Association Boss, has received Executive backing and assurance for sustained football development and promotion in the South East State from Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor and now Executive Governor of the State insists there have been positive vibes in Anambra Football since July 2022 when Iloenyosi, a former Nigeria U23 Olympic Team defender assumed the mantle of leadership of football in the state and as such has worked himself to the heart and admiration of the football policy thrust of the state government.
Soludo spoke on the sidelines of his chance meeting with the football boss on their way to Abuja on the same flight.
Gov. Soludo applauded Chikelue Iloenyosi for leading the state football in a new positive direction since their assumption of office, saying that the former Iwuanyanwu Nationale and Rangers left-sided defender is doing a ‘good job’.
The delighted Gov. promised to throw his ‘Executive support’ behind the FA over the weekend.
The state FA media department disclosed that the governor made this known during his meeting with Iloenyosi expressing satisfaction that the state FA is in the hands of an ex-international who played the game and knows what to do to take the game to the next level in Anambra.
“The governor said he has been following all the giant strides Iloenyosi has made in the last few months since coming on board and pledged to throw his weight behind the FA”, the FA Media quoted the Governor as saying.
Similarly, the FA boss, Iloenyosi, expressed confidence that the state’s flag bearers in the Round of 64 and Round of 32 (female) Federation Cup would do the state proud by going far in the competition.
In the men’s category, state champions, Ozalla FC will engage Doma United, an NPFL side on Wednesday at the Goal Project, Abuja National Stadium just as state runners-up, Edel FC take on Kogi Utd Feeders at the Akure Township Stadium.
In the female category, Maureen Mmadu Kiddies Camp will take on Green Foot of Enugu counterparts at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri on Friday.
On the other hand, Awka Angels, the state defending champions, will also be involved in the Round of 32 fixtures this weekend.
“We have two solid teams in Ozalla and Edel FC; they are the teams to beat in the Federation Cup”, Iloeyosi declared.
“I’m also confident that Maureen Mmadu girls and Awka Angels will dazzle in the Women’s category of the Federation Cup”, Iloenyosi emphasized.
