Bayern München are clear favourites to win the Champions League, according to an international poll conducted by AIPS in their seminar Let’s Talk About the Champions League, held on Tuesday via Zoom.
In total, 117 journalists from 59 different countries from the five continents answered the question “Which team will win the Champions League”. More than one out of four, with a total of 27.35%, answered Bayern München.
The German side, Bundesliga champions, have won the 7 games of the Champions League this season and have the competition’s top goalscorer, Robert Lewandowski, with 11 goals in 6 games.
The second in the preferences were Real Madrid, with 15.38% of the votes, followed by Manchester City (12.82%), Juventus (11.96%) and Barcelona (11.11%).
None of these clubs are still qualified for the Last Eight in Lisbon and will know their fate after the return legs to be played Friday and Saturday.
Real Madrid would need to come back from a 0-1 defeat at home as they visit Manchester City; Bayern appear to be more comfortably since they will receive Chelsea at home, having won the first leg 3-0; Barcelona take on Napoli at home (1-1 in the first leg); while Juventus will have to beat Lyon after losing the first leg 1-0 in France.
The rest of the votes were for Atletico de Madrid, Atalanta, and Paris Saint-Germain. All these three, as well as RB Leipzig, have already qualified for the Last Eight in Lisbon and will face each other in the quarter-finals. One of them will reach the final.
In the event of qualifying for the next round, the most voted clubs, Bayern München and Real Madrid or Manchester City, would meet in one of the semi-finals.
Based on the predictions of the 117 journalists and taking into consideration the draw, the most likely final is Bayern-Atletico de Madrid.
