In a bid to unearth grassroots football talents and pave the way for them to pursue professional careers beyond Nigeria, the Amusa Community Championship commenced today at the Legacy pitch of the National Stadium Surulere.
The tournament, running until Wednesday, December 13th, features six teams—Collins Edwins, Elite FC, Bethel FC, Cats FC, Team 360 FC, and Dominion Hotspur FC.
Amusa Yusuf, the visionary behind the competition, shared in an exclusive interview with Sports247 that the primary objective is to provide African players, especially Nigerians, with the chance to showcase their skills and fulfill their dreams of playing professional football internationally.
Yusuf emphasized, “We aim to fill this gap and provide opportunities for these players in the USA, most especially MLS and USL CHAMPIONSHIP teams.” He expressed awareness of the abundant talent in Africa, particularly Nigeria, and the limited opportunities available, aiming to bridge that gap through the Amusa Community Championship.
“The expectations are simple, giving opportunities to African players to showcase their talents, and achieve their dreams of becoming professional footballers.”
