Emmanuel Amunike, ex Nigeria international and former head coach of Tanzania national team has thrown his support behind Ronald Koeman as the Dutchman takes over the helm of affairs of Barcelona, replacing Quique Setien after a disastrous trophyless season.
Barcelona who were shamelessly ridiculed in the 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the UCL after missing out on the LaLiga trophy to bitter rivals, Real Madrid have moved to turn the club’s tides around with their ex-player appointment after terminating his deal with the Netherlands national team to take over as the new coach on a two-year deal.
Amunike in an exclusive interview with Sports247.ng stated that with the club’s recent management move, the club is on course to restore it’s lost glory, “Koeman has a lot of experience when it comes to coaching and we shouldn’t forget that he was a player in this institution, former Barcelona player”.
“During his time, he contributed a lot to the success of the club, he with Cyruff inspired a lot of generations with the style of football they played in the early ’90s. With the opportunity now to coach Barcelona having been part of the system as an assistant coach during my time in the backroom staff, we all understood the situation Barcelona is right now but of course, someone has to assume responsibility when they have to do the best so that Barcelona will come back to the normal track that they have set in the past.”
“It’s a very good one, we wish Koeman the best, coaching an institution like this requires discipline, commitment, vision and we wish him all the best, we hope he can turn things around for Barcelona fans, club owners and the institution as a whole,” he emphasized.
