Amuneke Admits Possibility Of Tanzania, Nigeria Clash

Former Super Eagles winger, Emmanuel Amuneke has admitted the possibility of his current team, Taifa Stars of Tanzania locking horns with his country, Nigeria, at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Sports247.ng reports that, following his successful guidance of Tanzania to their second ever AFCON qualification, with a 3-0 spanking of visiting Uganda last Sunday in Dar-Es-Slaam, The Taifa Stars’ head coach said the chances of being draw against Nigeria are very high.

Amuneke, who became African Footballer of The Year in 1994, after helping Nigeria win a second AFCON title with two goals in the final at Tunisia ’94, said he is happy to see his fatherland qualify for Egypt 2019 as well, and is now eagerly awaiting the April 12 draw in Cairo.

He admitted that Tanzania are ranked outsiders to lift the trophy in Egypt, but stressed that they will not go to the championship with their tail stuck in hind legs, as they also want to make history.

The former Zamalek of Egypt, Sporting Lisobon of Portugal and Barcelona of Spain star added that the East Africans are also not shying away from any tough match, as they know the need to confront top teams in order for them to make progress internationally.

Amuneke added: “We say we want to play with the big boys; since we have now done the needful by qualifying.
“At least, we can tap knowledge from a team like Nigeria. I’m so happy that Nigeria too would be there.”
