The General Coordinator of the NWFL Nationwide League, Sir Joe Amene, has expressed satisfaction over the standard of play exhibited by the clubs participating in the league both at the Aguiyi Ironsi sports complex in Abuja and the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode.
Amene, said yesterday evening at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, that, all the participating clubs have so far shown the class they are made off. Even those who were eliminated in the knock stages did not fall short of the expected standard, but we’re only eliminated by the league format.
“The teams left in the league proper, six in Ijebu-Ode and four in Abuja, have displayed the excellent standard of play in the number of games played so far. This has given rise to a possible photo-finish when the league ends tomorrow, April 17, 2021.”
Amene, who is also a board member of the NWFL, said he was most delighted with the alternate leadership on the league table, as the teams swap positions on a daily basis with different league leaders emerging every day. This is quite commendable and just the way the NWFL wants it to as the league oversees the development of the women’s league in Nigeria.
“Going by the high standard shown by the clubs at the two centers, today’s matches will even be tougher as the league goes into the last round of matches.
“The matches in Ijebu Ode today, starting from 11 am are very competitive as league leaders Moje Queens battle against FC Phoenix of Lagos, Oasis Ladies face Omidiran Babes in a game of supremacy going by the antecedents of their proprietors in women football development in Nigeria, and Royaltoms will slug it out against Dannaz in a tough duel. The league table in Ijebu Ode will be shaken again today as these six clubs go into battle, with four of them inches close to promotion.
“The scenario is not the same in Abuja, as all the remaining four clubs after the knock stages will be promoted to the NWFL Championship. Where the battle lies is for supremacy of who emerges first, second, and third between Crystal Stars, Beautiful Tours, 9ineteen Damsels, and Honey Badgers.
“It has been very interesting in Abuja and Ijebu Ode as we prepare the stage for a very competitive NWFL Championship League, our second-tier league. We await the emergence of the eight promoted teams at the end of tomorrow’s games. While all promoted teams have emerged by providence in Abuja, it’s not the same in Ijebu-Ode, where the league table changes every day. This is the standard we crave for in all the three tiers of the NWFL leagues,” Sir Joe Amene said.
