The Fit Mum Foundation’s maiden intersports competition, which unfolded on August 5th at the Eko Boys High School field, witnessed the spirited performance of the Amazing Ladies team, who clinched an admirable third position.
Led by Rita Usen, a dedicated businesswoman and a member of the Fit Mum community since last year, the Amazing Ladies showcased their dedication, resilience, and unity throughout the tournament.
Reflecting on the team’s preparation for the competition, Rita Usen shared insights in an interview with Sports247. She candidly recounted the challenges faced in coordinating the women, stating, “It was not easy working with the women. It was one disagreement or the other each day. At a point, we wanted to give up but with the encouragement of some older women in the group, we were able to iron out the differences and move on to get to this point where we are. It was not easy at all.”
Rita’s leadership skills came to the forefront as she recounted an inspiring moment during the tournament. She recounted, “At a point when we started, I went to change and by the time I got back, I noticed the other groups had started their activities except my team members who were somehow cold. I walked down to them and told them that whether we win or not, let’s try to cheer each other up. That would give the next person the morale to do more. Let’s not just sit down and be looking at others doing their thing. Let’s cheer up our teammates whether they come first or last in any of the events. That was when they got inspired and got ‘gingered’ to start cheering up and encouraging each other.”
Elaborating on their unexpected achievement of securing the third position, Rita expressed genuine surprise. “I didn’t see it coming. I didn’t think we would emerge third with the experience from the start of the competition,” she admitted. She attributed their success to a growing momentum that the team harnessed as the competition progressed. Rita noted, “I think the points we got were mostly from the march past because we had an excellent performance. I don’t know how the marks were calculated that my team came third. But I am happy I got to share in the trophies and took one home because I was really admiring them from the start.”
Looking ahead, Rita expressed her passion for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Her dedication extends beyond Fit Mum, as she also actively participates in gym workouts. For her teammates, Rita conveyed heartfelt sentiments of camaraderie and understanding, acknowledging the challenges they overcame to collaborate effectively. “At the end of it, we learn to understand each other. I understand all of them and always look out for the best for them,” Rita concluded.
The Amazing Ladies’ journey through the Fit Mum maiden intersports competition stands as a testament to the power of perseverance, unity, and unwavering support among women with a shared goal of wellness and camaraderie.
