Under-23 national team coach, Imama Amapakabo is picking positives from his side’s goalless draw with Sia1 Football Academy of Abuja last weekend, as he says it was a huge learning point for him and his wards.
Sports247.ng gathered that it was Amapakabo’s first match since he was deployed to take over the side two weeks ago, and the Super Eagles assistant coach enthused that that his players will improve in days to come.
The former Rangers International of Enugu and El-Kanemi Warriors handler, who was also a youth international goalkeeper during his playing days, said he was satisfied with his side’s performance in the test match.
He further admitted that the team faced problems with blending and lack understanding among the players, as the coaching crew decided to use many of the lads that have only been together for a handful of days.
Amapakabo, though, also admitted that his lads will have to do better in converting chances that come their way in subsequent games.
Imama stated: “I’m satisfied with their overall play, despite the fact that the goals did not come.
“It was unfortunate (that the goals did) not come despite creating lots of chances; hopefully, we will improve on that
“This was an opportunity to give every invited player a chance to play. It was an opportunity for us to see some of the lads.
“We had to try a whole lot of players because we are still trying to see how they will blend with our system.”
