Nigeria’s national 100m hurdles record holder, Gloria Alozie has declared that the county is on course to produce new world beaters at the Olympic Games, but admits it will take hard work and tough days.
Alozie, who switched allegiance from Nigeria to run for Spain in 2001, is back home in her country of birth, and sports247.ng can report that she is exuding confidence in her new task of scouting for athletics’ talents.
The task began three years ago, when Alozie took over as hurdles coach at Making of Champions Track Club, on a mission to scurry across the country in search of hidden talents.
The silver medal winner for Nigeria at Sydney 2000 Olympics, still holds the African record of 12.44secs, which she enacted in the 100m hurdles over 18 years ago, but she enthused that the country will soon get new heroes that can better her marks and those of other legends.
“I believe Nigerian athletics will be great again. It may take a while for us to produce Olympics athletes, but I strongly believe we are on the right track,” Alozie enthused.
