The Chairperson of Akwa Ibom State Para-Soccer Association (AKISPA), Evangelist (Mrs.) Comfort Essien has lamented over the negligence of her Association as well as Para-soccer players in the State.
Evangelist Essien made the lamentation known when executive members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN), Akwa Ibom State chapter paid a courtesy call on the Association on Monday.
Mrs. Essien said after the inauguration of the Association which is new in the State, things are not going well as expected. She noted that the Association has been for over a year now without a secretary and a coach following the retirements the immediate past secretary and coach of the Association.
Other challenges disclosed by her that are facing the Association is training pitch for the Para-soccer players, mobility, welfare, and vehicle for easy movements of the Para-soccer players.
According to her, “Things are not in order. If the Association has been formed by the Ministry, I think the Ministry needs to pay attention to it.”
“I was told that in four years, I should form a team that is made of Akwa Ibom players. How will I do that? Right now, I don’t have a coach.” She lamented.
She called on Akwa Ibom State Government, Ministry of Youth and Sports, and good-spirited individuals to come to the aid of the Association.
The Chairperson thanked Akwa Ibom State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), led by Comrade Emmanuel Akpan for taking out time to visit the Association.
Responding, the SWAN Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Akpan promised to partner with the Para-Soccer Association, adding that members of SWAN will always promote and publicized activities of the Association.
