AKUNETO STRIKE EARNS MFM FC A POINT AGAINST ENYIMBA IN LAGOS

Chijioke Akuneto’s 56th minute strike earned Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries FC a point against Enyimba International FC in one of Matchday 13 fixtures in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) played on Sunday at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium, sports247.ng reports.

The first 45 minutes of the most anticipated NPFL match of the week failed to live up to the expectations of the fans as both teams settled for a goalless draw.

On resumption of the second 45 minutes of the match, the visitors upped their game and scored the first goal of the exchange through Abdulrahman Bashir after four minutes of play in the second half.

Seven minutes after the opening goal, Akuneto put MFM back into the game with a lovely finish after receiving a sweet assist from Akanni Elijah. The game ended 1-1.

Akuneto told newsmen in an interview after the match that he is not happy with the result despite scoring his fourth goal of the season and his first NPFL goal against the People’s Elephant.

“I am not happy with the result. I think we should have done better than this. I like the fact that I scored but I would have preferred our team to win the match than me scoring.

“Dropping a point at home is not what we planned for but you know sometimes in football results will not just go your way but I believe we will bounce back,” he said.

The Olukoya Boys maintain top spot in Group A of the NPFL standings with 23 points from 13 league games while Enyimba still occupy the second position with 20 points from 13 matches says Olawale Quadry, the Media Officer of the Lagos based outfit
