Nigerian midfielder Akudo Ogbonna has completed a move to Swedish club IFK Kalmar.
The former Nigeria junior international has signed a one-year contract with the Elitettan side, marking her first professional stint in Europe.
Ogbonna joins IFK Kalmar from Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) club Remo Stars Ladies, where she developed her reputation as a solid defensive midfielder. The 21-year-old will don the number 18 jersey for her new club and is set to be introduced to her teammates on Friday.
This move represents a significant step in Ogbonna’s career as she embarks on her European journey, hoping to make an impact in Sweden’s second-tier league. The transition from Nigeria’s domestic league to European football will be a new challenge for the young midfielder, who is eager to showcase her talent on a bigger stage.
Ogbonna’s signing is part of IFK Kalmar’s strategy to strengthen their squad as they aim for promotion to the top-flight Damallsvenskan. Her addition is expected to bolster the team’s midfield, bringing defensive solidity and experience from her time with Nigeria’s junior national teams.
