Former Field Director in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Hausa Kulu – Akinyemi has praised the performance of the senior national women basketball team, the D’Tigress for their gallant performance in the FIBA women world championships in Spain.
D’Tigress did the unthinkable by reaching the quarter finals but were eventually dumped out by the USA.
Despite the defeat to the Americans, the seasoned sports administrator said the ladies did the country proud and should be celebrated.
“The ladies really made the country proud in the World Championship in Spain. They deserve to be celebrated for their performance during the competition,” Akinyemi told Sports247.ng.
“It’s not easy to have reached the quarter final stage of such a big tournament. The girls did the unthinkable by getting that far. They held their own before bowing out to USA, which was due to inexperience.”
“D’Tigress are our pride. They weren’t given the chance to go far but surpassed expectations. They should given more accolade,” he added.
