Akinfenwa Targets Highest Goal Scorer’s Award In Nationwide League One

Real Sapphire FC’s match hero in their 5-2 spanking of AS Racines on the opening day of the new season in the third-tier Nationwide League One (NLO), Musa Akinfenwa wants to be crowned top scorer at the end of this campaign.

He declared as much after netting three goals and assisting two others that gave his team the day’s second best result and took them behind Spartans FC at the top of the table.

Aside from emerging as NLO’s highest goal getter this season, Akinfenwa added that he also aims to become a top professional footballer in Europe and win many trophies.

Incidentally, Akinfenwa has inspiration from the exploits of a former player of his club, Victor Boniface, whose rain of goals recently helped Bayer Leverkusen win the German Bundesliga title for the first time in their history.

With the feats of Boniface serving as a vibrant guide for the new kid on the block, Akinfenwa disclosed that he is banking on more instructions from his coach and support by his teammates for his success story to become true.

The youthful winger, who only recently got promoted to Real Sapphire’s senior team, started by revealing how his hat trick became possible and said: “I just focused on putting up a good performance and to do my best.

“My coach always tells me to try my best in any match and to stay focused. He also advises me that, although I am a winger, I can score if I get the chance.
“I tried it today, and I am happy I scored three goals. This is my first time scoring a hat trick in the NLO, and I am just new in the senior team, so I am very happy.

“My target, if possible, is to win the highest goal scorer award in this league, and I will fight for it.
“My biggest target, though, which I focus on, is to play in Europe. I want to play in a top league, win championships, win cups, and league titles in my career.”
