Nigeria female basketball national team, D’Tigress star, Ecelyn Akhator is reliving the heroics she and her colleagues were able to pull off at the recent FIBA Women’s World Cup in Tenerife, Spain.

Sports247.ng recounts that Akhator played a key role in Nigeria’s surge to the quarter-finals at the competition, during which they pulled off three historic victories and reached a point no Africa team had ever achieved.

The 23-year-old, became the greatest influence in D’Tigress rise to eighth position in the world, has taken a look back at the outing and takes a huge relish from the Nigerian team’s victories.

The former WNBA player, who featured in D’Tigress’ four games, totaling 58 points with an average of 14.5 points per game, 10.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists, said she will forever remember their victories over Turkey, Argentina and Greece.

Akhator, who was also the only African to make the MVP shortlist at the FIBA Women’s World Cup, said winning three matches brought an end to Nigeria’s thirst for victory.

She declared: “When you are thirsty and you have not tried a particular juice for a long time and you finally get to drink it.

“It is like you can’t have enough of it and you want to try it again and again. That is how it is for us.

“When we won the game against Turkey, we wanted to win more games.

“We were hungry and we wanted more of winning. It makes us feel thirstier for victory.”
