A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Akarachi Foundation has revealed that it has set aside a whooping sum of N25million for a grassroots football tournament mainly for youths in Mbaitoli and Ikeduru Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Imo aimed towards talent hunting, the founder of the foundation said this while briefing members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Owerri earlier this week.
With that, 24 teams drawn from the two LGAs will feature at the tournament set to kick-off on Nov. 15 at the Presentation secondary school, Ogbaku with the winner of the tournament entitled to a sum of N1million cash prize, the first runner-up will get N600,000, while the third-place team will get N400,000.
“Other prizes include Most Valuable Player award, highest goal scorer as well as the best goalkeeper of the tournament as the foundation would also sponsor football talents uncovered at the tournament to seek for clubs in Europe,” Amadi stated.
“I am a product of the society and I benefited from the society, so I want to give back the society what I benefited from it as I have the passion to assist youths of our time to discover their talents and that is why I founded this nonprofit organisation to use it and uplift our people, ’’ he posits.
