Chairman Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Council in Lagos, Fatai Adekunle Ayoola has thrown his weight behind the forthcoming Oba Akran Cup scheduled to kick off next month across ten centers in Badagry and its environs.
This was disclosed by the Chairman Organising Committee of Oba Akran Cup, Dr. Osondu Martins Ibegbu while chatting with sports247.ng on Monday in Lagos.
Ibegbu revealed that the competition has received the support of the Council boss, Ayoola and he had promised his support for the competition. He revealed that the meeting he and his committee had with him recently was fruitful and promised to release Nathaniel Idowu’s astro turf football pitch for the opening ceremony and other matches during the tournament.
“Let me use this medium to thank our amiable chairman, Honourable Ayoola for his support towards Oba Akran Cup. During my meeting with the council boss, he had promised to release Nathaniel Idowu’s football pitch located at Ajegunle for the opening match and some matches can be played there during the competition.
“Secondly the council boss told us that we should come and do the draws ceremony of Oba Akran Cup in his council chamber conference. I am very grateful for this kind gesture and I believe that we are equal to the task to host a successful competition,” he said.
The competition is organized to celebrate His Royal Majesty, Oba Akran of Badagry whose birthday is scheduled held in September.
Meanwhile, the draws for the competition have been shifted to next Thursday at the chamber conference of the Ajeromi Ifelodun council. 64 teams have shown readiness for the competition and the final ceremony would hold in September to mark Oba Akran’s birthday.
