Football is coming back home. And yes, it is returning to Ajegunle, a land filled with unbelievable talents in entertainment and sports.
Renowned for producing hundreds of gifted football talents in the past, Ajegunle would be agog once again, as the 36th edition of the popular Ajegunle Mock Nations Cup begins Saturday, at the Naval Sports Ground, Alayabiagba, Ajegunle.
The tournament now known as Sanwo-Olu/Ajegunle Mock Nations Cup, is expected to feature 40 teams drawn from different parts of the community and bearing names of different African countries.
Speaking with journalists on the competition, Hon. Abdoubaq Ladi Balogun, who is a major brain behind the renaissance of the competition, was quick to remind members of the public of the unflinching commitment of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to the continued development of the state and the empowerment of the youths through his avowed T.H.E.M.E plans.
“This state is blessed with a sports loving and people oriented governor. He’s passionate about taking Lagos state to greater heights. And this football competition is one of the community development projects of the state,” Balogun, who is also the Managing Director of Lagos State Ferry Services.
The competition which is expected to be keenly contested starts Saturday January 7 and the grande finale coming up on February 19, 2023.
