Nigeria Professional Football League side, Sunshine Stars F.C have booked their place in this year’s final of the Ondo FA Cup after defeating Ekimogun F.C in the second semi final fixture of the tournament, Sports247 Nigeria can report.
There were no other epic moments in the first half of the match apart from Defender Azeez Ajagbe’s goal in the 35th minute that gave Sunshine Stars a one goal advantage going into the second half.
Chigozie Chilekwu converted a spotkick to double Sunshine Stars’ lead in the 65th after Ebonam Nwogbaga was bundled down in the 18-yard box. However, just 3 minutes later Ekimogun put one back from a rebounded ball from goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal’s penalty save.
Ejike Uzoechi scored the third penalty awarded in the encounter to restore Sunshine’s two-goal lead in 78th minute before Jide Jimoh netted The Owena Waves’ fourth goal of the match in the 85th minute to hand Sunshine Stars a comfortable 4-1 victory against Ekimogun at the Ondo State Sports Complex on Thursday morning and setup a Cup final against city rival, Akure City Academy.
Akure City Academy on the other hand defeated Sunshine Stars Team B 4-3 on penalties after the regulation ended one-all in the first match of the semifinals on Wednesday, 8th of June, 2022 at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure to secure their place in the final.
Both teams, Sunshine Stars FC of Akure and Akure City only joined the tournament in the quarter finals round because they participated in the finals and represented the state in the last Aiteo Cup.
The winners of the 2022 Ondo FA Cup will represent Ondo state at the finals of the National AITEO FA Cup later this year.
