A victory in the opening fixture against Mali meant that the Super Falcons opened their Aisha Buhari Cup campaign on a winning note with high spirits in camp but the atmosphere has fast changed as there is another game lurking.
The Super Falcons defeated Mali 2-0 courtesy two goals by substitute Monday Gift of FC Robo in the Nigeria Women’s Football League who announced herself in style taking two good chances presented to her by the captain of the side and FC Barcelona forward, Asisat Oshoala.
Speaking to Sports247 after the game, Swedish side Umeå IK defender, Glory Ogbonna, said it was important to start on a winning note as the spirit of the team in camp was high even before the game.
“It was a great result for us and it’s a good thing for us to start with victory as the spirit before the game was high and it remained the same after the game,” Glory said.
“We were positive before the game but that’s all over now as we have switched focus to our next game against South Africa and that is football, taking one game before the other. It’s nice we started with a victory and I know a lot is expected of me and the team and we’ll improve on our performance as we will improve our result,” she added.
The Super Falcons next face South African on Tuesday 21st September 2021 as the ABC comes to a close.
