AIPS Sport Media Awards: Are you a young reporter under 30? Here’s what you need to know about the Awards

The AIPS Sport Media Awards 2020 are open to submissions. Professional journalists from all over the world can participate in the nine categories, while the young reporters competing in their dedicated category will have the chance to win a scholarship to cover a top sports event.

How do I know if I can participate in the Best Young Reporter Under 30 category?
This optional category is dedicated to all that were born on or after January 1, 1991.

What are the categories for Best Young Reporter Under 30?
You can submit in any of the three existing categories: Photography, Writing or Broadcasting (for Audio & Video).

How many submissions do I have?
Just one. It is not possible to make two different submissions in the Young Reporters category. However, you can use the second submission in any of the senior categories.

Is it mandatory to participate in this category or can I choose to compete in the senior categories?
This category is optional, meaning that you are free to use your two submissions to enter in any of the senior categories, that entitle a money prize.

What’s the difference between the Young Reporter Under 30 category and the senior categories?
1) Young Reporter Under 30 categories do not include second and third place: the three subcategories will have a direct winner. 2) Instead of receiving a money prize, the winners of these subcategories will earn a scholarship at a top international sporting event, with accreditation and all expenses covered, a career-changing opportunity.

What are the valid dates of participation?
All works must have been published between October 8, 2019 and October 7, 2020. Our deadline is October 7, 2020, at 18:00 Central European Time.

What fields do I have to fill in the submission form?
Every submission form has a field for Title and Description. Please use the description to explain as much as possible about your work and add all additional information that can be valuable for the judges.

I’m a freelancer. Is it possible for me to participate?
Yes!

I’m not a member of AIPS, can I still participate?
Yes!

Do I have to pay a fee to participate?
No, participation is completely free.

My work was published on a personal writing/video/photo sharing platform or personal website, is it still valid?
Since many young journalists might only have the possibility of publishing their work on these kind of platforms or personal websites, we consider these valid, as long as they comply with the rest of the rules. For submissions coming from personal social media accounts, we can contact entrants and ask for additional information during the judging process before making a final decision.

What does proof of publication mean?
We need to verify that the picture was first published between October 8, 2019, until October 7, 2020, the valid period of participation of the AIPS Sport Media Awards 2020.

How can I prove the date of publication?
Proof of publication for photos, articles and videos could be 1) a link in which the date is visible. 2) a link of an event that took place in the valid period of participation (from October 8, 2019, to October 7, 2020). 3) a PDF of a print publication with the picture and the date visible in the page. 4) a PDF of a print publication with the picture plus the PDF of the cover to check the date of publication.

Can I delete my submission or change it before the deadline?
Yes, it is possible to make amendments, add missing documents or complete missing fields. You can also delete your submission, in case you’ve decided to submit a new one.

Do I have to send my work in English?
All languages are accepted. It is not mandatory to send an English translation, but you can submit it as supporting document. All works in a language other than English that were not submitted with an English translation will be first screened by native speakers.

Will you publish a ranking of the most voted participants?
After each voting process, we will announce the ones that went through the second round and the final round, in alphabetical order. After the winner is announced, we will also publish the most voted per continent.
