Aigbogun Explains His Choice Of Academy Players

Youth national team, Flying Eagles’ coach, Paul Aigbogun has explained his decision to include nine football academy lads in his squad to the West African Football Union (WAFU) U-20 Cup of Nations.

Speaking ahead of the opening match on Saturday in Lome, Togo, Aigbogun told sports247.ng that he wants to use the competition to spot new talents for his team.

Aigbogun stated further that the WAFU tournament will serve as an opportunity for new players in his team to blend with the older ones.

The former Warri Wolves and Enyimba of Aba gaffer stated further that he believes that taking part in the tournament will help the young lads and other new players stake claims for shirts in the main team.

Aigbogun added: “We are using this competition basically to test new players in the team ahead of the U-20 AFCON.

“These football academy players and other young ones will have chances to show what they have and what they can do before the other regular players return to camp next year.

“The regulars will be joining the team in preparation for the African championship in February in Niger Republic.”
