A board member of Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Colonel Sam Ahmedu (rtd) has showered praises on the country’s men’s national team, D’Tigers’ coach, Alex Nwora, for what he says is the tactician’s successful elevation of the squad to international standards.
Although sports247.ng reports that Nwora led D’Tigers to two defeats and a single win at the recent final leg of the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, Ahmedu insists the coach has already done well.
He stated as much during a radio sports programme, in which the very amiable yet outspoken basketball guru, who is also president of West Africa zone B pointed out that Nwora has proven all critics wrong.
The proprietor of Dodan Warriors Basketball Club of Lagos concluded by declaring total confidence in the future potentials of Nwora, who guided Cape Verde to a 79-76 win against D’Tigers at the 2013 Afrobasket.
Ahmedu stated: “Not everyone believed in his ability when he was appointed to the job. They were asking Alex who? Nwora what?
“But, now we have seen what he is capable of. He shown improvements in the national team, and I am sure D’Tigers will do better under him.
“I have to thank the president, vice-president and board members of the federation for agreeing to give him an opportunity.
‘I am glad that Alex Nwora has been able to make use of the opportunity. A coach can’t make his mark unless he’s given an opportunity to do so.”
