FIBA Africa Zone 3 president, Col Sam Ahmedu has stated that the just concluded Kwese Premier Basketball League in Kano was an invitational competition.
Ahmedu, who is also member of Ahmadu Musa-Kida led board of Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) stated in an interview with sports247.ng that the competition was not organised by the right body.
While stressing that Kida’s board of the NBBF is the one recognised by the global sanctioning body for the sports, FIBA, Ahmedu said the right personnel were not involved during the competition in Kano.
He added: “We have no problem with the tournament but we must state that the right to oversee the affairs of Nigerian basketball for now still lies with the Ahmadu Kida-led board.
“Hence the winner and runners-up of the just concluded league in Kano won’t be Nigeria’s representative in the African competitions.
“They will only get the ticket if they emerge from the abridged league that is expected to commence before the end of this month.”
