Ahmedu: First Bank’s Bronze Medal Is Satisfactory

First Bank female basketball club of Lagos coach, Peter Ahmedu has given his players a pat on the back for their bronze medal at the 2018 FIBA Africa Women’s Club Champions Cup in Mozambique, saying their performance was satisfactory.

Although Ahmedu admits he felt The Elephant Girls were good enough to win gold, after three straight third place finishes in the continental showpiece, he told sports247.ng that bronze is better than nothing.

Ahmedu said he was satisfied to have ended up with a third place finish following Sunday’s 93-69 win over AS Vita club of DR Congo.

Hew disclosed that his satisfaction is based on the fact that the team did not have the opportunity to play enough games together and at the right level of intensity during their preparations.

Ahmedu is of a view that playing top-grade build-up matches would have boosted the team’s chances of challenging for the title.

He declared: “I just hope that the NBBF will do more to ensure that the Nigerian league gets back to the format where teams play more so as to enhance their chances next term.”
