A Lagos based premier club, MFM forced Team Lagos male football team to a 2-2 draw in a pulsating friendly match played early today at Agege Stadium.
The friendly was organized to prepare Team Lagos for National Sports Festival scheduled for next month in Edo.
Team Lagos who lost 0-2 to Gateway FC last week in friendly gave a good account of themselves as they quickly canceled one goal deficit suffered in the first half when Chimezie Maduagwu got the equalizer in the 56th minutes to give their fans something to cheer.
The friendly that lived up to expectations saw both teams played at their best. The effort of Team Lagos were rewarded in the 68th minutes when Ubani Wisdom scored the second goal that sent a warning signal to teams coming to Edo for the festival.
While the Lagos fans were jubilating that Team Lagos had won the match, a clear penalty was awarded to MFM in the 78th minutes and was quickly converted through Williams Obata to end the encounter 2-2.
Team Lagos Coach, Yusuf Adeshina expressed sadness that his team allowed their opponents to draw them at the last minute of the encounter.
“It was a good match but I am not happy the time we conceded the equalizer from our opponents. We wanted to win the game to confirm our readiness for the festival unfortunately it ended in a draw.
“I must commend my players for their timely response after conceded the first goal in the first half. It shows that our team are in good shape and ready for future challenges. We will still engage our team more friendlies before we move to Edo for the Festival,” he said.
MFM coach, Tony Bolus said the friendly was a good one noted that he used the test match to assess his players who are not regular players in the premier league.
“I did not use my full squad but I presented some players who hardly feature in the premier league to test them and see how they can be brought into the main team. I am happy today that I have seen one or two players that may feature for our next premier league match,” he said.
