Against All Odds: Fatimah Oloko’s Journey from Family Opposition to NWFL Stardom

Fatimah Oloko, a young female footballer, recently opened up about her challenging journey into professional football, which was met with little to no support from her family.

In an interview with her club’s media, Oloko shared the struggles she faced in pursuing her dream, revealing that her family initially disapproved of her decision to play football, prioritizing education over sports.

“At first, my family never supported me; none of them wanted me to pursue football. As a female child, they believed education was the only path.

Football was not part of the plan, and I had no support from anyone except my late brother, who stood by me. It was a tough journey,” she reflected.

Despite the lack of encouragement, Oloko’s resilience, combined with the unwavering support of her late brother, saw her rise to the professional ranks of the Nigerian Women’s Football League (NWFL).

Now a key player in Rivers Angels’ rebuilt squad for the 2025 season, Oloko has set her sights on making a significant impact as their goalkeeper.

She has promised fans that she will give her all to ensure no goals slip past her, showcasing her passion and skills on the field.
