The Ekiti State Football Association on the weekend held a Webinar on its WhatsApp Ekiti Football Builders Forum to enlighten and widen the knowledge of football stakeholders on the social media platform.
The Webinar titled “Guide to minimum medical requirements for the 2020/21 football season” with the lecture delivered by Mr. Ige Adewale – a sports medicine expert and a certified nurse.
Mr. Ige noted that teams must have a proper and well-equipped medical or first aid bag at the pitchside always so as to avert health hazards that may be caused by serious injury as football is a contact sport and prone to injury always.
He further highlighted that teams should endeavor to have certified, experienced, and well equipped medical personnel to aid the performance of their players on and off the field.
“Even if your team can’t get a nurse or physiotherapist, I will advice them to try and liaise with the Red Cross Society of Nigeria, they are well trained in basic first aid procedures and have volunteers all over the state. Having a non-professional person handle a team’s medicare can have a negative effect on the team’s performance”
In view of the above, the Ekiti State Football Association has approached the Red Cross Society of Nigeria Ekiti state chapter for partnership ahead of the 2020/2021 football season.
In a request letter signed by the chairman, Bayo Olanlege, it was revealed that the association wants a long-lasting partnership and relationship with the well-known society.
The state-owned team – Ekiti United FC will be participating in the Nigeria National League (NNL) while other teams in the state will play in the Nationwide League One (NLO) and the state league ( Bet9ja Ekiti Football League, BEFL) this year. Ekiti state is also one of the 8 zones chosen by the NLO secretariat for its 2020/21 league matches, so it is imperative to have a working relationship with an association as important as the Red Cross Society of Nigeria.
