The African Youth Games has been confirmed to take place in Congo, Brazzaville over Easter of 2023.
The confirmation came at the sidelines of the General Assembly of Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) that was concluded on in Seoul, South Korea.
The news is highly welcomed considering it had earlier been scheduled for 2022 in Egypt but later postponed.
Coach of the Future Eagles of Nigeria, Charles Bassey is optimistic that the team will not disappoint at the games.
“We hope to start camp early enough and we will hit the ground running,” he mused.
“The All Africa Youth Games is very important for our boys and we will be ready for it, if given early period to start camping.
The African Youth Games is a multi-sport event held every four years as a prelude to the Summer Youth Olympics.
It has not been held since 2018 due to the global pandemic.
Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) are organizers of the games which is targeted at discovering young African athletes, both girls and boys of 14–18 years, with about 30 sports codes.
Nigeria has participated in the last two editions in Gaborone and Algiers, improving their medal tally in between the two Games.
