African Table Tennis on the Rise — Oshodi Confident of Strong Showing at 2026 World Team Championships

President of the Africa Table Tennis Federation (ATTF), Waheed Enitan Oshodi, has hailed the rapid progress of table tennis across the continent, expressing optimism that African nations can now compete with the very best in the world.

Speaking after the conclusion of the continental qualifiers, Oshodi noted that Nigeria and seven other African countries have secured places at the 2026 ITTF World Team Championships in London — a development he described as a sign of growth, consistency, and improved standards.

“African table tennis has grown tremendously in recent years,” Oshodi said. “Our players now believe they can stand toe-to-toe with the best in the world. This confidence is the result of hard work, exposure, and better development structures across the continent.”

He highlighted that both male and female teams from Nigeria have continued to show promise, adding that the federation is working closely with national associations to ensure players are adequately prepared.

“The key now is consistency,” he continued. “We’ve proven we can qualify, but now we must perform at the biggest stage. I believe our representatives will make Africa proud in London.”

Oshodi further called for corporate sponsorship and government backing to sustain the momentum, stressing that table tennis is one of Africa’s fastest-growing sports and deserves more investment.

“If we continue at this pace, it won’t be long before Africa produces a world champion,” he concluded
