Organizers of the prestigious international youth soccer tournament Africa Youth Cup are felicitating with Bayelsa United football club as the team made the entire people of the state proud by qualifying for the finals of the Aiteo Cup, Nigeria’s own National Challenge Cup.
We are still in the maiden edition, and the success story of the Africa Youth Cup is still trending with the coach of Bayelsa Restoration Starlets, Diepreye Tebowei, who was engaged by the state government as technical adviser to Bayelsa United Football Club after winning the third-place trophy for Bayelsa Restoration Starlets at the Africa Youth Cup in Cape Verde 2019.
As a technical adviser to Bayelsa United Football Club, Diepreye Tebowei popularly called COMPUTER, and his assistants, with the management team, havetransformed Bayelsa United Football Club into giant killers. We celebrate him and the entire management team for qualifying for the finals of Aiteo Cup and pray that the trophy will go to Bayelsa State to add to the success diary of the Africa Youth Cup.
It will be recalled that the MVP of the Africa Youth Cup tournament was spotted by the Sporting Club of Portugal and the champion Volcan Junior Academy coach was also engaged by the legendary Asec Mimosa of Cote d’Ivoire.
Two players from Volcan Junior Academy moved to SOA- Societé OmniSports de l’ Armée, and the team eventually became 2019 champions of Pro-league 1 in Cote d’Ivoire. A player from Benfica Football Academy also graduated from the Benfica senior team.
We congratulate the miracle sport-loving governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, and pray that they will use the Aiteo cup to reward him for putting together a miracle-working team in the spirit of his prosperity agenda for the development of sports in the state.
But for the Covid-19 Pandemic, the cream of international youth soccer academies from Africa and the rest of the world would have come to Cape Verde for the second edition of the prestigious Africa Youth Cup International Soccer Tournament in 2020. However, plans are ongoing to organize the 2020 edition in 2022.
With the successful hosting of the maiden edition in Cape Verde in 2019, we believe it is time for the rest of the world to come to Africa for international youth soccer tournaments of this magnitude which is the symbol of the Africa Youth Cup.
