Nigeria has been knocked out of the 2024 International Handball Federation, IHF, Women’s Youth World Championship, reports Sports247.
The Nigeria U18 Women Handball national team were handed their second defeat in the competition today as Montenegro defeated the team 26 – 9.
Nigeria could only score six goals in the first half and scored only three in the second half in the match.
Montenegro’s excellent defensive performance helped the European side seal their main round spot.
Fellow group B mate, Angola also suffered exit from the competition as Croatia ran riot over the Angolans and condemned them to a 30-14 loss, early Thursday morning.
Croatia delivered a fantastic first half against Angola, conceding only four goals, the lowest number conceded in history by the European side at the IHF Women’s Youth World Championship, scoring at free will after turnovers from the African side.
Left wing Katja Vuković was her team’s top scorer, with eight goals, followed by left back Ivana Fratnik, with seven goals.
Nigeria and Angola will face each other in the competition on Friday in a mere formality game but for pride as Croatia and Montenegro move to the next round in the group.
