Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), referee and member Nigeria Referee Association (NRA), Kwara chapter, Marufu Afolabi, on Friday in Ilorin lectured the players of Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Ilorin FC on the amendments to the FIFA laws of the game.
The NPFL referee, touched on laws 3, 4, 8, 11, 12, 14 and 15.
Afolabi commended the management of ABS for putting the class together for the players as it would avoid them unnecessary cautions during their games.
He asked them to especially pay attention to the handball rule as it remained the most sensitive part of the laws of the game.
Afolabi, while lecturing the players, said any handball by an attacker in the opposition’s box is a foul and the player will be penalised.
He also told the goalkeepers to be mindful of their position during a penalty shootout, Afolabi explained that at least a leg if not the two must be on the line before the penalty is taken.
Afolabi cautioned the players to be mindful of the kinds of words they use or say during the cause of the game as many things referees overlooked in the past are now punishable with cards.
He urged the players to be disciplined as match officials respect players with good attitudes.
