Hardworking, government endorsed, athletes approved and Nigeria sanctioned AFN president Olamide George leads the cream dela cream of Nigeria athletes to the all comers meet taking place about now in Akure the Ondo state capital.
Nigeria sports minister Sunday Dare will grace the event on Saturday to provide moral support to the athletes as they intensify preparation ahead of the fast approaching Olympic games.
George, who has gone about his duty with due diligence and full commitment has promised to fish out the best athletes that will do Nigeria proud at the Olympic games.
His hardwork has not gone unnoticed as key stakeholders like Mary Onyali, a former captain of team Nigeria to the Olympic games believes he is just the perfect man to lead Nigeria to glory at the games. She has appealed to all stakeholders to throw their weight behind the new board, stressing that early signs, points to better days ahead for Nigeria athletics.
The Athletics federation of Nigeria AFN has gone through a torried past under the leadership of Ibrahim Gusau, a man whose high handedness and poor athletes management caused Nigeria successes at previous international meets.
There were also stories of misappropriation and misapplication of funds which led to internal crisis within the federation, prompting key stakeholders to move for his removal
Nigeria sports minister Sunday Dare has promised to support any moves that will restore sanity in all the federations and says government will not stop supporting any federation that has got the potentials to put the country’s name on the world map.
Dare will be in Akure on Saturday to offer his support to the All Comers Athletics championship
