The 2024 national trials to select track and field stars for both the African senior athletics championship in Douala, Cameroon and Paris 2024 Olympics Games will be the biggest event in the history of athletics in the country, according to Tonobok Okowa, President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
Making his stance clear in Monday’s release by the athletics body, Okowa commended the athletes for their determination to qualify for the Olympics.
He declared, “By choosing Olympic qualifications, the athletes have demonstrated their dedication, willpower, and desire to excel in their careers.
He continued, “It would essentially determine who goes to Paris for the Olympics, so the athletes would be chosen based on their performances at the trials.”
Edo State Sports Commission Chairman Yusuf Alli welcomes athletes for the national trials, which is expected to showcase the best of Nigeria’s athletes based at home and abroad for the Olympic Games in Paris in July.
