Theophilus Afelokahi, who is one of the highly-rated goalkeepers as far as African competitions is concerned has lauded the covetous example laid by Rangers football club over the Insurance policy bestowed on Late Ifeanyi George’s family as he advocates more of this show of compensation from all Nigerian clubs.
Late Ifeanyi George ( Enugu Rangers talisman) died in a ghastly motor accident earlier this year on his way home after the club granted the team a break posed by the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.
Afelokahi applauded: “I was so surprised for what Richard did which I never believed it until I saw it, I confirmed from my friend Kola Daniel who went for the program, if all the Nigerian club did what Richard did, 90% of the players of Nigeria will use all they have, mind and heart to play because they know that whatever comes up tomorrow, there will be insurance to back them up”.
“Richard has broken a record that has never happened in this country, which is a very good thing that he has started, other clubs should learn from them, Players will no longer want to travel out because of the assured insurance, if it continues and other clubs adopt it, players will play with their lives with confidence.”
The club compensated the family with a sum of 20 million naira, 10 million naira to the deceased family, 8 million for his child’s education, and 2 million to his girlfriend this month.
“20 million naira isn’t a small amount, look at the late Ifeanyi George’s daughter and family, they have something to build on and its not about the death of a player too, life-threatening injury too, this will help players a lot.”
“I appreciate this so much, I was so surprised, let other clubs learn from them, this is very important, it means we know what we are doing, God bless Enugu management and I wish them well in the new season ahead,” he ended.
