Afeez Aremu Declares Self Available For U-20 AFCON

IK Start of Norway midfielder, Afeez Aremu has declared that he is available to play for Nigeria’s youth national team, Flying Eagles at next month’s African U-20 Cup of Nations in Niger Republic.

Although the competition falls outside the FIFA international calendar, which would normally prevent key foreign-based players from starring for their countries, sports247.ng learnt Aremu is available because the league in Norway is yet to resume.

The former Akwa United of Uyo dazzler confirmed as much, when he disclosed that his club released him officially, since they will not play in any competitive fixtures until April.

With the 2019 U-20 AFCON billed to hold all through February in Niger Republic, Aremu says he is fully available for Coach Paul Aigbogun’s squad, in which he is one of seven foreign-based professionals called up.

The Flying Eagles are drawn in Group A along with the host nation, Niger Republic as well as South Africa and Burundi, against which they will open their campaign on February 2 in Niamey.

Aremu said: “I am fully back to the U20 camp because our league is off and my club have released me to come and represent my country.

“Our league will only resume in April and so I hope to play at the AFCON in Niger.”
