Renowned lawyer, educationist and philanthropist, Chief Afe Babalola has showed his strong love for sports, as he relished the joy of a successful organisation of 2018 Yeye Aare Babalola Athletics Sports Festival.
Sports247.ng can report that Babalola said at the end of YABAS 2018 at Afe Babalola University, Ado EkitI (ABUAD) that it was an effort worth celebrating for days to come.
Babalola described sports growth as one of the ways through, which the potentials of Nigerian youths can be developed for more economic gains and prosperity.
He also appealed to government at all levels to see sports as a veritable weapon to fight poverty, especially in a country like Nigeria, where the unemployment of youths keeps increasing on yearly basis.
At the grand finale of the competition, sponsored by the founder’s wife, Mrs. Modupe Babalola, over 135 athletes drawn from four secondary schools, competed in 14 different sporting.
On her part, Mrs. Babalola said the motive behind the festival was to discover talents among youth and keep them away from social vices.
She added that sportsmen and women discovered in the four previous editions are now excelling in Nigeria and Africa.
