In an exclusive interview with Sports247, Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodumi, Chairman of the Ogun State Football Association and executive member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), expressed his elation and gratitude for the Super Eagles’ successful campaign in the AFCON 2024, which has propelled them into the highly anticipated round of 16.
Majekodum began by acknowledging the significance of the team’s accomplishment and extended his appreciation to the Super Eagles for navigating the challenging group stage. He emphasized the enormity of the responsibility they bear in representing the aspirations of over 200 million Nigerians on the continental stage.
“It’s a great feeling that we are into the round of 16, and I want to thank the Super Eagles for this feat. I know it’s not easy. They represent over 200 million Nigerians at this competition, and for me, I will urge everyone to keep faith in this team,” Ganiyu expressed.
Highlighting the unique bond between the players and their compatriots, Ganiyu stressed the importance of unwavering support, stating, “Because we have no other country, Nigeria is our country, and these set of players are really here to put in what they can offer us.”
While acknowledging the constructive role of criticism in improvement, Ganiyu encouraged fans and pundits to channel their energies into providing words of encouragement rather than outright condemnation. He underscored the team’s need for motivation and belief in their capabilities to overcome challenges.
“I just feel that they need a word of motivation. They need a word of telling them that they can do it because they have what it takes to do it,” Ganiyu remarked optimistically. “With good motivation and with us having faith in them the way we are going, I think that faith still remains that Nigeria will surely do it again.”
As the Super Eagles advance to the knockout stage, Ganiyu’s words serve as a rallying cry for unity and steadfast support, instilling confidence in the team’s ability to shine on the continental football stage.
