#AFCON23: Godfrey Oboabona Optimistic About Super Eagles’ AFCON Journey, Cautions Against Underestimating Underdogs

Former Super Eagles defender, Godfrey Oboabona, has shared his optimism about the current Super Eagles squad’s chances at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) while cautioning against underestimating teams classified as underdogs.

In a recent statement, Oboabona expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to go far in the tournament.

However, he emphasized the competitiveness of teams labeled as underdogs, pointing out that there are no easy matches in the current AFCON.

“Firstly I have to give all Glory to almighty God for making it possible during our time on the 2013 team.”

“So far as the team is now, they are trying to do their best, it’s not over until it’s over.”

“When you look at the teams in AFCON now, there are no underdogs. The big teams you think are superior; are the teams that they don’t put effort into and they don’t put zeal.”

“And so they are out, but when you look at underdogs team, it’s very very competitive and it’s very high. Teams like Cape-Verde, Angola, and so on like that.”

“So for me, I wish the team a very successful outing and I believe they can do it. With their appearance, with their approach to everything, I believe Nigeria is going to go far by God’s grace.”

Oboabona’s insightful comments highlight the competitive nature of the AFCON tournament and the need for the Super Eagles to approach every match with the right mindset, acknowledging the strength of supposedly ‘underdog’ teams.
