After securing their place in the AFCON 2024 knockout stages with a 1-0 win against Guinea Bissau, experienced defender and Super Eagles Assistant Captain, Kenneth Omeruo, shared his thoughts with the press.
Omeruo emphasized the importance of rest and training as they gear up for the knockout phase.
“Looking forward to resting a bit and starting training, and work towards winning the next game because it’s knockout football from now on.
We have to keep trying to keep clean sheets and score goals also,” stated Omeruo, outlining the team’s focus on maintaining defensive solidity while being clinical in attack.
Having led the team in the recent match, Omeruo expressed his satisfaction, saying, “I feel good. Always an honor to lead the team in this tournament, and I’m happy we got the three points. Unfortunately, we didn’t top the group, but it happens, and we look forward to the next game and win.”
Anticipating the potential opponents in the knockout stage, Omeruo acknowledged the likelihood of facing Guinea or Cameroon.
When asked about their chances against these teams, he responded confidently, “Of course, definitely. No, I can’t be scared. It just goes to show how improved the African teams are now.”
Omeruo’s optimism reflects the Super Eagles’ determination to advance in the tournament and echoes their commitment to overcoming challenges in the knockout rounds.
