Augustine Eguavoen has claimed the Total Energies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Group Stage Best Manager award.
The Super Eagles head coach wins the prize after leading his side to victory in all three of their group stage matches with a +5 goal difference.
Nigeria started their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Egypt, followed by impressive 3-1 and 2-0 wins over Sudan and Guinea-Bissau to conclude the group phase.
The Super Eagles are the only team with a 100% record from the group stage. It means Eguavoen matches the mark he set in 2006, of becoming the only Eagles coach to win all three group games at an AFCON.
“Many thanks to the Confederation of African Football for this award,” Eguavoen said.
“The Best coach of the Group stage. Wouldn’t have been possible without my fantastic group of players and colleagues. Thank you Nigerians for your support. It’s needed now, more than ever.” he added.
Nigeria have been drawn against Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles in the Round of 16 on Sunday.
