Nigeria legend, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha was full of praise for Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen following Nigeria’s winning start at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria defeated Egypt 1-0 in their Group D opener, thanks to a Kelechi Iheanacho first-half goal.
Speaking as a guest pundit on Supersport, Okocha, a former Super Eagles captain, said Eguavoen got his tactics right.
“He (Eguavoen) knows when we are not doing well, he knows what is required to an extent and it was clear to see today that it was the same personnel.
“We saw a solid Nigerian performance despite the number of key players missing. And I like the fact that Eguavoen understands what he wants and he has the players that could help him achieve that.
“If winning the AFCON is not enough motivation for him to have taken this job, then I don’t know what else it could be because it would be great for him to win it as a player and as a coach.”
Nigeria will face Sudan in their next game on Saturday before closing the group with a clash against Guinea-Bissau next Wednesday.”
